copenhagen duo series

Alex Ventling (nz/ch) – prepared piano, compositions

Matt Choboter (CA) - prepared piano

Mirsaeed Hosseiny Panah (IR) - santur

Ivar Myrset Asheim (Nw) – drums

Hein Westgaard (NW) - guitar

Anna-Lucia Rupp (DE) - voice

Aurelijus UZameckis (LT) - double bass

These duo collaborations emerged in conjunction with the European Jazz Masters which Alex began in August 2020 at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, in Copenhagen. The miniature series explores prepared piano techniques, finding a unique way into the expansive terrain between composition and improvisation. Warmer accessible associations arise in a usually 'avant-garde' context and subtle textures and blends appear through the different constellations. The music's motion acts like playful revolving-wheels, in mesmerising synchronicity. Watery visual projections filmed and created by Alex accompany the morphing piece, 'Six Refractions'. These experiments are only beginnings to a much grander project currently in progress, in the European lock-down months.
